It's important to look after your candles in order to get the very best from them. Correct care will maximise burn time and ensure that flames burn cleanly.
Trim the wick
Before you light your Gold Hart candle make sure the wick is trimmed to 5mm (just less than 1/4 inch).
It's best to use a wick trimmer like ours, however nail clippers will also work.
Trimming the wick will give a cleaner, brighter burn. Neglected wickswill appear to have a black mushroom on top, and your candle will be dull with a weak flame. In addition, long wicks encourage the black smoke rings around the glass.
Allow the wax to melt fully
Once your candle is lit, don't extinguish until the top layer of wax has melted all the way across.
Our wax is blended to burn evenly, all the way down. We recommend burning your Gold Hart Candle for between 30 minutes and 4 hours to fill your room with scent.
Extinguish with a snuffer
Don't blow out candles; use a candle snuffer to gently extinguish your flame.
This prevents the wick becoming buried in wax, it also avoids the sight and smell of smoke or sooting.
Position away from moving air
Do your best to keep your burning candle away from fans, air conditioners, open windows, or heavily trafficked areas where people walk back and forth a lot.
Draughts decrease the burn time and can disturb the flame, leading to unsightly black marks on the glass and diminished scent throw.
Always store your candles in a cool, dark and dry place. Scented candles also look great stored under a glass cloche, which also protects from dust.
If your candles become dusty or have fingerprints, gently rub the surface with a piece of nylon or a soft cloth.
Avoid placing your candles where they will be directly exposed to sunlight or harsh indoor lighting.
